Yesterday, I had the experience of enjoying the brand new Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios, set to open tomorrow, June 30, 2018. Toy Story Land is located near the existing entrance to Toy Story Mania. If you are familiar wit the location of the Pixar Place sign, just take a right there and you will find it. I am sure that Disney will enhance the entrance at some point, as of right now, you have to walk between two bland buildings before entering the land. Toy Story Land contains two brand new rides, an existing, expanded ride and one restaurant.
Toy Story Land
Solid A – Overall, the place is just downright cute. Disney did an great job of making you really feel like you are living with Buzz and Woody in Andy’s backyard. Oversized toys, crayons, lights and just about anything else. It is so cute and so well done, you really don’t want to leave.
Slinky Dog Dash
A+ – Really, hard to imagine this coaster being any better. Be aware teens, this is not a high flying, looping, thrill coaster. It was intended for kids (and older folks). It is faster, higher and longer than Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a good half way point between that ride and something like Expedition Everest. It is also very fun looking, so anyone tall enough will not be put off by it looking scary at all, it just looks fun. The queue and loading area are incredible, so well done, I actually stood in the loading area for about 10 minutes just looking around and everything that was used to construct it. Even if you don’t like coasters, I think you will love Slinky Dog Dash.
Alien Swirling Saucers
C – The theming is very fun, with an oversized Buzz Lightyear guarding the entrance. The “cars” are really cute, driven by little green aliens. However, the ride is a remake of Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. If you are under 8, I can see you enjoying this ride, but for anyone else, it is was very ho hum.
Toy Story Mania
Disney has finally expanded Toy Story Mania to add a third track, and will be moving the entrance to the ride over to Toy Story Land. The new queue is really cute, really well done and very entertaining. It seems like you move around, room to room more often than the old queue, that was basically in one big room.
Woody’s Lunchbox
B – Woody’s Lunchbox is the only restaurant in Toy Story Land. As with all of Toy Story Land, it is Cute. The seating area is pretty large and well done, the problem I see with Woody’s Lunchbox is that it is TINY! There are only two ordering kiosks and two windows. It seems like they have underestimated the demand there will be to dine in this area. Now, from what I can tell the kitchen is huge, and the menu is limited, so it is possible that ordering and service could be very quick and may be able to keep up with demand. I guess we will see.
As a plus, Toy Story Land is now home to the best restrooms in Hollywood Studios. They are located across from Alien Swirling Saucers.
Overall, Toy Story Land is a must do. I expect Fast Pass demand to be very high, especially for Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania. Once the newness cools down, Alien Swirling Saucers shouldn’t be too hard to get. Plan early or plan to wait in line for Slinky Dog Dash for the next few years.
