8 Things Disney Insiders do at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey's Halloween Party

It’s that time of year…there’s a fresh fall feeling in the air, and the pumpkins are ripe…it must be Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party season! This ghostly event at the Magic Kingdom is a must-do, but you’ll want to prepare for your party beforehand. Here are seven things Disney insiders do when they go to MNSSHP:

1. Come in Costume!

The majority of Not-So-Scary guests – adults in included! – will be wearing some sort of costume, so don’t be afraid to dress up. Insiders like to get their entire group into the Halloween spirit, with the whole family dressed in theme as pirates, the Incredibles, or the cast of their favorite Disney movie.

2. Make a Party Plan.

The party runs from 7pm to midnight, and you want to make the most of those spooky hours! Disney experts know which characters they want to see and which Not-So-Scary events they want to catch before they arrive for the party. They’ll ride attractions and do sit-down meals earlier in the day to save the evening hours for offerings that are exclusive to MNSSHP. Also remember, the party doesn’t start till 7pm, but your party ticket lets you enter the park at 4pm.

3. Visit the Happy Haunts.

If there is one ride a Disney insider makes time for on party night, it’s the Haunted Mansion. The cast members are dressed in extra-eerie makeup and cobwebs, the mansion’s lawns are lit in Halloween hues, and there are even some ghosts outside to chat with.

4. Pose with the Hitchhiking Ghosts.

There are several special Magic Shots available exclusively at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! One of the most popular is available near the Haunted Mansion – you can get the hitchhiking ghosts in the shot.

5. Never Wait in a Trick-or-Treat Line.

The big giant Mickey pumpkin lights mark the trick-or-treat lines, and there are lots of them throughout the park. Don’t make the mistake of waiting in a long line for candy – just keep walking and the next station you come to will probably have a non-existent line. If you find a short line, also know that the cast members will usually let you go through twice!

6. Watch the Castle Show while You Wait.

If you’re waiting for the parade, snag a curbside seat near the castle early, and you’ll be able to watch the Halloween castle show while you wait. This year it’s brand new, featuring the cast of the Disney Channel movie Hocus Pocus.

7. See the Boo to You Parade.

Headless horsemen, villains, Disney favorites, waltzing ghouls, Goofy on a candy machine – the MNSSHP is one you won’t want to miss. There are two showings at 8:15pm and 10:30pm. For lighter crowds, try watching from Frontierland or waiting for the second parade. Warning: you will have Boo to You stuck in your head for the rest of the night.

8. Come Early and Stay Late.

While Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party starts at 7PM each night, you can get into the Magic Kingdom starting around 4PM with your Party ticket. This is a great way to get extra time in the Magic Kingdom without using a day from your normal park passes. Plus, make sure you are planning on staying late. The Party is open until midnight each night, and the crowds usually start thinning out around 11PM once the last Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” parade starts.
