Each year since 1994, Epcot has put on the Flower and Garden Festival, this year running from March 4 to May 17, 2015. A few years ago, in addition to all the great flowers, topiaries and other springtime favorites, Disney added the super popular food booths that are ever-present at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival held each Fall. The good news is that these are all brand new booths, with special spring time Flower and Garden Festival offerings.
The other good news is that if you happen to be on one of the Disney Dining plans, many of the offerings are available to you as a snack credit, and honestly, this is probably the best way to use your credits.
Today, I made the sacrifice of eating at every booth. I picked my favorites of all the snack offerings for you, to save you a little bit of a hassle.
Mexico – Jardin de Fiestas – Taco al Pastor
The Taco al Pastor is a corn tortilla filled with Achiote-marinated Pork garnished with Grilled Diced Pineapple, Onions, Cilandtro and Salsa Verde. The taco was quite good, very tasty and a decent size. While I personally would have preferred a little more heat/spice, I would definitely purchase another. The Flan de Queso con Chocolate Abuelita was quite good as well if you have a sweet tooth.
China – Lotus House – Kung Pao Chicken Bun
The Kung Pao Chicken Bun – OK, probably not my absolute favorite, but I wanted to include it in the list. The chicken was quite good as were the fresh vegetables, but he bun really needed to be steamed and warmed up to complete the dish. Oh, and add some sriracha sauce available at the counter to give it a little kick.
American Pavillion – The Smokehouse – Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash
Th Burnt Ends Hash, complete with white cheddar fondue and picked jalapeños. Hard to describe just how good this was. I would order a larger portion in a restaurant any day for a meal. Great potatoes, burnt ends were perfect, and the cheese sauce and jalapeños completed the meal. Yum!
France – Fleur de Lys – Macaron Guimaove à la Fraise
This beautiful thing is a strawberry and marshmallow filled macaroon. Yes, it is good as it sounds and looks. Warning, the insides are just as sweet as the outside, so this may be a great option to share, it was just too much for me to eat alone. At least that is the story I am sticking with.
Pineapple Promenade – Pineapple Dog
The Pineapple Hot Dog is a Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney and Sriracha Mayonnaise. OK, while I normally do not like sweet things associated with my meat things, this snack was excellent. The spicy hot dog and Sriracha mayo really gave it a kick that couldn’t be beat. Definitely wish this was bigger, would have loved to have this for lunch.
Botanas Botánico – Coconut Tres Leches Cake
Wow, so good we had to get two pieces to share, at that wasn’t enough. By far the biggest hit of the day, this cake needs to be served in some Disney restaurant somewhere, and soon. In fact, it was so good I didn’t even get a chance to take a photo, it was gone before I got the camera out. I may have to go back in the next day or two to pick up another piece, and hopefully get a photo.
Have you been to the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival yet this year? What was your favorite snack?
