Lunar New Year at Disneyland

Lunar New Year at Disneyland

I’m Alyssa, a Mouseketrips Agent and this week I was invited to experience Disneyland Resort’s Lunar New Year celebration at Disneys California Adventure! This is such a delightful but fleeting festival! It only runs through February 13, 2022, and has many special and rare entertainment, dining, merchandise, and character opportunities to entertain new and seasoned Disney travelers alike!

I learned here that 2022 is the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Tiger which includes the year I was born! I’ve also recently begun a journey in the study of Martial Arts so it was a special experience to be immersed in this celebration.

Disney’s California Adventure brought many of the traditions of China’s annual event to life and it begins the moment you walk through the incredible entrance in Paradise Gardens. Traditional red lanterns are hung and street food style carts line the walkway with delicious tastes of the season. Some of my favorites included the Beef Bulgogi and Peach Yuja-ade at “Lucky 8 Lantern”. A more traditional offering of Baked Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Buns) are at the “Cappuccino Cart”. There are noodle carts as well and more!

Pro tip: Get the Sip and Savor Pass. It offers 6 items of your choice from participating kiosks for one flat rate. Another piece of advice, if you plan on eating food from more than 1 place, order everything at one cart (maybe the one with the shortest line????) and then bring your receipt to whichever cart is advertising your dish(es) to receive them.

Once you’ve grabbed your food, find a space along the route to watch Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession! This is a thrilling cavalcade led by Disney’s resident Tiger, Tigger! He is followed by traditional performers and dragon dancers, drummers and your favorite Characters from Disney’s animated “Mulan” in this colorful performance!

When Mulan isn’t in the Procession, you can find her, Mushu and other Favorite Disney Characters (like Mickey and Minnie!) at the Paradise Gardens Gazebo, dressed in their Lunar New Year Festival best!

Raya from Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon” is also making a visit during this special time at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and her photo opportunity is quite spectacular! (Get in line early for this one!)

Enjoy other festival entertainment like kid’s coloring crafts, or leave a wish at the “Lucky Wishes Wall” all set to live music, played by premier Chinese music ensemble “Melody of China”

Don’t miss your chance to be immersed in the exciting and special events of the Lunar New Year celebration at Disney’s California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort!
